Scratch from bike handlebars!!! - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Son was pulling his bike out the garage the other day when he came and told me that he put a really long scratch in the ML's drivers side door!

Scratch was horrendous! I used OEM touch paint and applied it with an artists brush. Results looked good and it did not stand out. I decided to cover it with the OEM clearcoat as well using another artists brush. Now it looks horrible! The clear coat didn't sit in the groove of the scratch the way the color did. It is wide and stands out from an angle.

Is there a way to get this clearcoat off without damaging the rest of the doors paint so that I can start over? Or do I NOT apply clear coat? I have attached pics of the scratch after attempting to fix it. Thanks!

Try paint thinner. It won't harm the factory finish.

Paint thinner? Why wouldn't that harm the factory finish? Once get the clearcoat off, would it be okay to just leave the color repair with no clearcoat?

Your paint is not reversible,,, we use thinner all the time to get all kinds of things off paint. It will be fine to just let the paint on w/o the clear. It's better than the scratch.

I would just step sand it and paint it, you are never going to hide that with touch up paint. Looks like a nice vehicle, make a good repair.

Try your insurance company ! It was an Accident !!
