My 300TD project....
Recently acquired 1980 300TD.
It all started with fiding a water leak hidden somewhere in the front right corner. It ended up with a major (for me) project and paint job. After removing the windshield, the door seals, the rubber trim under the top railings and finding some rust pretty much everywhere I had not much more to do to get the car ready for a paint job... I used Poor 15 for the first time and I have to admit that this product is impressive. I treated all the rust spots. The bottom door seals rails were pretty far gone. I also treated the inside bottom door panels (no rust there yet but...). The biggest rust spot was located behind the front left bumper. The car is currently at the paint shop and all my new seals and parts are on the way. Thanks to Phil at Peachparts.com It has been a very busy week but I have to admit that I am glad with the progress. It will take me a while to put the car back together once painted but I am excited about the prospect of getting the 300TD back on the road. I wanted to thank the member of this forum for the incredible amount of help and tips. This has been an extremelly valuable ressource. Here are some pix of this on going project. http://gallery.me.com/flangenard#100638

I have a 79 300TD
I have learned the ropes on all the necessary mechanical repairs and doing that has given me great joy, but the paintwork seems daunting to the beginner. I'd like to start with the rust under the driver's door and the rust spots at the wedge tips of the rear side windows. Any tips would be welcome. e.g. if the edging of the door's weatherstrip has rusted away, how does one anchor the new one and what preparation is necessary? and If I have to remove those side windows, how do I do it? How does the beginner remove the aluminium strip without damaging it? Thanks Dirk |
