w123 door bottoms

I have two w123s with the same issue: crusty door bottoms right above the bottom channel for the rubber door seal. One car has got so bad that the channel for the seal is now gone, on the driver's door.

When it comes to repairs in areas such as this (that is, where it isn't really visible, even with the door open) I'm no purist. Or I'm relatively lazy, if you prefer.

Has anyone come up with an innovative solution to this?

Thx

Steve

You can buy a repair panel for the lower half of the door - not very innovative I'm afraid!

You can fabricate a new channel and weld it on?

I shaped a new channel from sheet metal and used pop rivets and JB Weld to secure it. Then I coated it with 3 coats of POR-15.

That was 3 years ago and it still looks like it did the day I finished it.

Chad, now that's what I'm talking about!
