Have I used the wrong gauge metal. W115

Hi,
I would be grateful for any advice. I cut out the rust on my floorpan from where the rocker meets the floor to the angled crossmember on front drivers side. I got new sheetmetal and cut and fitted new piece into place with pop rivets until I can get it welded. After I finished I got to thinking that because the sheet metal I fitted is slightly thinner than the origonal would I be compromizing the safety of the car.... I know, I should have thought about it before I started.

Many thanks RP

What gauge did you use? It's probably still stronger than the rust.
