Interesting New Welder
EcoWelder official reseller of Multiplaz3500 in San Fernando Valley, CA, USA.
This apparently uses water and alcohol (specifically, ethanol, and I couldn't help noticing that that this was invented in Russia, and may actually operate passably well on vodka). My guess on how it works is that the water/alchohol may turn into steam, and blast out, like a plasma torch, and also apparently acts as a shielding gas (but possibly, not as well). Not mentioned is that the plasma and water are probably charged oppositely. In addition to the plasma, the temperature is so high that H2 may decompose into hydrogen atoms, which then recombine (violently and at an even higher temperature than H2 and O2), adding and additional kick. They've patented this technology. It seems a little light as a plasma cutter (but probably OK for automotive use), but all in all it does seem to have some interesting advantages and applications. An unknown is if welds are as strong as they are with conventional MIG and TIG - the "shielding" may not be as thorough. I think I'll wait for a few more independent reviews, but the dealers seem to be early customers, which gives me some reason to take this seriously.

According to the site the method of operation is this
"The torch produces an electric arc between the cathode and nozzle. Arc energy heats the nozzle, which in turn heats the evaporator that causes the fluid to heat and turn into steam. Steam flows toward nozzle outlet under pressure (0.4-1.2 bar). Coming out from the nozzle, steam compresses the electric arc. Arc compression increases arc temperature. Compressed electric arc heats the steam to ionization temperature and operates at 14,000F." EcoWelder official reseller of Multiplaz3500 in San Fernando Valley, CA, USA. | Specs I can't see how it would be shielding with something that contains oxygen though - if anything I would guess that it increases the risk of oxidisation - but that's only a guess... ...In fact it goes on to say "In operation the plasma arc forms an oxidized film in the welding area ensuring the weld does not rust." I no understand that. Also I don't see how it is "eco" they say it is a 3.5kw appliance. That is not what I'd consider to be an energy saving appliance... With short distances of wire you could just about use 2.5mm^2 standard domestic wiring on a 220V supply with a 16 amp circuit breaker / fuse... but you are right up there on the limit of the wiring.

The superheated steam (probably working at supersonic speeds) and plasma might continuously and instantly blast off any film of oxidation that forms in the actual weld area, but that's just a wild guess.
It's odd that they don't mention the atomic hydrogen angle - because that is theoretically the hottest flame that chemical combustion alone can develop. Although this unit has a 120/240 plug, I wonder exactly how much welding it can do with 120. That, among other things, is what I'm waiting to see an independent review on.
