190d jack point rust through

Well I am continuing to sort out my 1985 190d and have amassed all the parts I need to fix the leaking IP distribution valves, and broken Ignition switch as well as a few others .
The only major issue left is one spot of rust. I have looked over the entire undercarriage, frame, and body and it is all sound and rust free except the drivers side rear jack point is rusted through about the size of a baseball all around the jack point tube. I would like to fix it so I can use the jack point again. The metal struts that support the jack point are amazingly rust free as is the tube. It is as if a metal eating rodent had chewed a hole in the rocker panel. Will cutting back to rust free metal and welding back to the jack point tube be enough to support the car when lifted? Anyone else dealt with this issue?
Thanks

IF the 201 is similar to 124/123 chassis, then you should be able to lift the vehicle now. all the structure is inside.
so, just clean up the rust, and weld in a nice patch, or use fiberglass, and bondo, after you treat the metal with por-15, then paint it with por-15, and cover up with color correct paint.

Good to know. I'm going to take the grinder to it tomorrow and por-15 the snot out of it then patch. Thank you
