Clear Coat on Silver MBs gone bad

I have a silver 1995 MB and the clear coat appers to have moderately deep scratches. Looks like some one drove it thru a sand storm.

It there anyway to repair the clear coart. One paint shop told me know. Another guy said he could color sand the bad areas and buff it out.

Anyone have experience with this? Did you find a cure. Any help and product manufactures and grades of compounds is greatly appreciated.

thanks

If the scratches are through the clear coat exposing the base coat for any length of time then no. The U-V rays from the sun, exposure to chemicals and weather wear rapidly affect the underlying paint. I'm talking about just a couple of months or less depending on your location.

Buffing it out MIGHT even it out but once the base coat is exposed then it's merely a matter of time before the clear coat fails and de-laminates.

Without seeing a pic any advice would be speculation. If you color is Anthracite Grey Metallic, that is one of the toughest colors I ever worked with (spot fixing/color sanding)
