W126 driver floor repair = whunter keeping busy

Here are a few pictures of a minor weld repair, gone totally out of control.

This began as a 2 inch hole where the accelerator bottom mounts..

All metal removed was like tissue paper...

... wow.
I'm guessing you'd LOVE to have some floorpans and exhaust systems from my yard...

Oh man, this brings back memories from my 300D (except that I never fixed any of it). I love my Texas car even more now.

Gosh,
I thought my 85 300D was bad and many wondered why I bothered fixing it. But for a 91 that is really bad.

What is that red stuff you painted on the front floor pan?

I am sure if you keep going you will find more rust!

Haven't seen Stretch around lately. He would like this thread.

My seat in my previous 1980 240D rot bucket almost fell through the floor on the way back to the shop, so I welded in almost a complete driver side floor pan and it kept me on the road for about 7 years before it wouldn't pass inspection anymore because cancer was everywhere. I wish I could find the pictures I took of it with the film I had when I first got it and took pics. My '80 exhaust looked the same if not worse as that '91 when I took it off the road for good. It was definitely a road hazard, but got my moneys worth.

Wondering what caused the rust in the driver side floor. I have a similar issue on my car. Maybe leaking of the condensate tube inside the car ?
