cheap W123 paint tips - please help
hey paint folks...
my daily driver is strong, but it needs paint. i have removed all the exterior rust and covered the bare metal with POR-15. long story short i know to do it right costs $3-5k. my car isnt worth that so... can someone walk me through prepping the car for a place the would just spray it for $500 to $800? eg Maaco or equivalent i just want the car to not look embarrassing driving around town - this is not a restoration by any means. i will do all the prep work, masking, etc. thanks in advance! dd

Of course strip all trim or stuff you don't want covered. Cover up things you don't want to be painted. Wrap the exhaust tip with foil before sending it in. Putting rope in the gaskets around the windows will allow them to get the paint under it and not on the gasket.
If you're cool with prepping the surface then you will want to sand and possibly prime the surface. The better the prep, the better the result. If you do prime the car yourself wet sand it up to 2000 grit, maybe do a few sprays in between standings to get an idea of how level the paint is with a black paint. I'd look up on how to prep a car for paint, most of the work will be in the prep. |
