SL560 - rear damage

Guys,

'88 SL560 was backed into on the passenger rear at low speed. Can the trunk be saved? I haven't done a lot of body work before (more of a wrench guy myself) - how big a job am I looking at?

There appears to be no structural damage and the SUV hit above the bumper as shown in the picture.

Thanks - any advice would be great.

-John

Have a look at car-part.com It is a nation wide inventory search of participating salvage yards.

The lid will be difficult to repair 100% and given the tail light panel is bent, you don't have a good frame of reference as to what parts are dimensionally correct.

Get another lid. Also get trunk lid hinges as they are going to be bent slightly.

The tail light panel will probably pull out. This is where a properly adjusted trunk lid will be of great help. Also look for a body dimension chart.
