W210 Shock Tower Rust
 

Well, it's a beautiful day in New England....time to play with POR-15! My main goals are to deal with a one inch rust area on my W124 wheel well and, on my W210, the lower cross member that sits in water in the encapsulation panel (what a stupid design!) and a few spring perch spots.

I had hoped to address the surface rust at the shock towers....but it's just a bit too much of a reach (I only have ramps)....can't imagine that I would do anything other than a half a$$ed job.

The towers still look very solid. And I'm sure that, eventually, I will have to get my auto body guy to fix them properly. In the meantime, am I fine simply checking them once in a while to ensure there's no movement? Again, I've already resigned myself to paying for the repair down the road.

Might be better to use Fluid Film to keep the rust at bay...
not take a chance it is hidden under a covering like Por15...
and where you have trouble getting to it..
I think it also comes in spray cans...

For such tasks I like to use Rustoleum outdoor protectant spray. Forgot the exact name, but has a shovel on the can. Seems to leaves a waxy petroleum coating, perhaps like cosmoline. You can remove it easily later to do a proper painting. I spray fasteners and such with it, when I don't want to take the time to paint.
