W126 rear rust and repaint

I know that there’s a huge “it depends” angle to this - need to see in person, depends upon hidden damage underneath, painting is contingent upon prep, etc.

Long story short, what’s the rough range of cost for a w126 rear windshield rust repair, and a repaint with good quality?

I know you can get the sky’s the limit on repaint. I know the car could be rotted extensively. But assuming not... assuming reasonable levels of quality and best practice... does anyone have firsthand experience? Would like to bound the trade space. I know it’s a range.

See attached pics for why I’m wondering - a vehicle I found relatively local that I’m considering to buy.

I estimate $2000 of work. +/- $500-1000.

Thanks!

This is only a few panels, but I think a whole repaint is prudent. Including silver lower cladding.

This is all that can be seen for under-the rear windshield, maybe a dime size. Couldn’t feel anything from the inside reaching in, but who knows how far it has spread if it’s broken through the paint.

Only other major thing that would need repair.

I would be very cautious on this one. The car has been repainted in a very poor manner. I suspect there could be a lot of rust under this one. I would look for one with a better body.

I didn’t buy it. Many white w126 cars with white paint exhibit those cracks fwiw...
