Removing Trunk Badge Residue
When I got my SDL, both badges on the trunk lid had fallen off (they were stored in the trunk). The problem is that there is a residue left on the paint from where they sat (see picture). I have the 3M tape to reinstall them, but want to get the old residue off first.
Suggestions that won't ruin the paint in the process? I can't seem to get a definitive answer from Googling that involves removing old dried out crusty glue residue. |
Removing Trunk Badge Residue
Ive used goo gone from home depot to soften the adhesive and gently scraped mine off. There was a lot of imbedded dirt in mine so I took my time. Held the softening agent on it with a rag until it was soft enough to remove with and old card.
Cleaner wax removed the evidence. I suggest measuring where it was before starting. I didnt. |
Goo Gone definitely helped. I removed all that was coming off, that stuff was BAKED in place. All that's left is a slight shadow and it's smooth - can't feel it running a finger across it, so I'll say that's "good enough".
Next warm day I'll reattach the emblems and be happy with it |
Happy it worked out for you.

Certainly puts me a step closer to letting other motorists know what they're following :P
