W123 dissection question - engine crossmember.

I am parting a W123 300D (see link here) and am wanting to take the engine crossmember with me to the engine's new home - it would simplify motor mounts immensely.

My hesitation is that what is left of the car needs to make one last trip behind a towtruck, and I don't want the wheels going different directions on the way there.

It looks to me like the (now empty) front end would survive a ten mile journey, but I would love to hear feedback telling me to do/not do this. Experience would be best!

Why do you think saving the cross member is going to make sense?

I was thinking that it would make it simpler to get the mounts aligned, but it occurs to me that it will be just as simple to make a mating tool and use that to get the mount points set up - sort of a rigid tool that emulates the motor mounts and lets me fine tune the mounting brackets without the engine in the way.

Borrow or rent a dolly and put the front wheels on it. Most rental places ask 25 bucks a day/
