Heres my rust stuff, I ground down/cut back stuff to non-rusty metal then welded stuff over it. I'm not a very good welder, but I think it'll work.

Wish I had some pictures of my old Ford Crown Victoria. I got rid of it after the frame rusted out behind the right front wheel, where it kicked out to meet the sills. The car still drove fine and didn't sag anywhere, oddly enough.

I also had a Volvo 240 I sold for parts after my mechanic warned me that the driveshaft center bearing was about to fall out due to floor rust. I'd already done numerous patches to the rear hatch area to keep water out. The tops of the door sills had holes you could fit your hand into. I once had a P/S leak on that car due to a steel line rusting through. Michigan car, naturally.

Eh? They went backwards? They decided not to bother checking - that it wasn't worth it? If they did that here it would be carnage.

Man the stories of cars people I knew once drove. Wish I had pictures to show....but I considered them too ugly to be worth the cost of developing the film back then. I myself never had any that bad....I grew up in the rust belt.....I hate rust and rusty cars. I saw many cars literally melt away within 4 years, American and Foriegn alike through 1981 when I moved further south and east..

A W124 with rusted out windscreen pillars - pictures to follow - and it was on the road at the time.

I have a customers W111 Cabrio here which is going to be restored...The only part which will not need work or replacing is the center tunnel.

Damn, that's some serious rust. Those cars are pretty valuable so it might be justified.

Probably is worth it.

I remember when Stoddard Porsche near here was still owned by the Stoddard family. They would get some 356's, esp. speedsters, that were virtually gone. Wheels, engine, and serial number.

They would come out looking new. I never did ask them how much that cost.

No need for bondo. None in the car either .I pulled the engine and trans yesterday and it's not the original power unit. it's a 1963 which is seized rock solid. I think this car may have been stored under a tree,a cyprus tree in the everglades.
The trans is an auto which is pretty good condition but the car was a four speed manual originally so the owner has a better engine and trans to swap in once the body is done. But this cab is nothing. Read through this site and see how a really knackered 190SL was bought back from the dead, beyond the dead in fact. it belongs to a friend in Singapore . They won a prize in a european Concours earlier this year.
