pilkington windshield glass quality questions

i had to have my windshield replaced [again], a rock nailed me.

i asked for lof-libbey owen ford glass. i got pilkington, there is no lof markings or logo at all.

also the glass information is in the corner of the passenger side-right where the mercedes sticker goes.

they put 5 chips on my g.d. hood. also the trim is not down all the way on the lower windshield.

i feel like i was bent over. they chipped my hood and roof, they did not remove ALL the old rubber adhesive goo, like they were asked.
now i'm thinking they're trying to stick me with an aftermarket piece of glass.

does anyone know about pilkington glass? is this lof glass?

Most of the newer 2002 and up use pilkington glass. I noticed that my father inlaws 2004 C320 4 matic wagon had this as factory glass on all the windows. I wouldn't worry,i sure it's very good quality.

Pilkington is a good quality glass. I would be worried, however, about the extraneuos damage that your car incurred as a result of the windshield replacement.

Pilkington is a quality brand. I believe it's standard on all Jaguars (for what that's woth). Pilkington is up there with St. Gobain, Trempex, and PPG-all quality automotive glass manufacturers.

Although many of the newer Mercedes vehicles come with Pilkington glass, there must be a different grade that the outside glass companies use.

My 97 E320 got nailed by a rock and had to have the windshield replaced. I asked for "premium" glass and got Pilkington. Immediately, I noticed that the glass information is in the lower passenger corner where the factory sticker goes. The fit was horrible. The outside bottom trim piece no longer sat on the glass and the inside pillars didn't line up with the black frosting around the windsheild. To make things worst, there was a wind buffering sound at freeway speeds.

After complaining, the windshield company replaced my Pilkington glass with PPG. All the problems went away.

Almost all the glass on newer MB since the 90's has been Pilkington. I bought a new windshield from the dealer for my C280 (Pilkington), had it installed by the dealer and everything is perfect. I think the fit problems described by wtam may have been related to the original installation rather than the brand. I find that glass shops, for the most part, are awful. That sounds like the case with yours ebennz. The majority of glass installations I have seen have been botched in some way.
