Drain under hinge = drain under master cylinder?

The pocket for each hood hinge funnels to an opening that leads to anothers opening (not directly) under it - then down through wheel well. Is this the drain under the master cylinder. 1985 300TD wagon - 123 style. The same happens on the other (battery) side - is there another drain under the battery tray? Thanks Steve

There are two sets of drain holes in each of the "pockets" where the hood hinges reside. They both drain down to a hole below that drains through the wheel well. On the driver's side the lower drain is actually directly below the fuse box, slightly outboard of the brake booster. There is one just like it on the passengers side that you can just access below the outboard edge of the battery tray (without removing the battery). If they haven't been cleaned in a while they can be hard to spot as the dirt tends to cake over them and hide the holes. A little probing with a stiff wire will clear them out. It's really worth the effort as these drains are critical to avoiding eventual rust.
