I have been there only once, but they have been recommended
to me by other MB owners and they were very courteous,
competent, and professional when I went in there. You
might give them a try, but keep in mind they charge $90
an hour for labor--all the shops in the bay area do.

I won't let anyone else touch my Benz. They do excellent work and are reasonably priced.

A friend has taken his 500 SEL to Hi-Tech Automotive in Bakersfield for several years and reports quality work at this location. Myself have not experienced their work as my 2000E is under warranty.

Well thank you for the input, I will stop by and strike up a conversation with those guys sometime. Thanks again. Do you live in bakersfield? What do you think of the dealer here?

Raj, call Scott Brady at Shermin Auto in Mt. View. He has at least one, maybe two, European mechanics. They have worked on my MB Unimog and their work is excellant. It is hard to find a shop that will work on Unimogs, but these guys were excited about the opportunity.

I've had luck with Silver Star Auto on Old Almaden and San Jose Street, just off the Almaden Expressway. The owner, Steve has been very fair with me and does a very clean job! He used to work for Smythe Mercedes as a tech then went out on his own.He's from Germany so it took a while understanding him because of his accent! I recommend him, and tell him George Kern with the 1989 300E sent you. Look his phone # in the book. I have but can't find it right now.

When we lived down there, there was (and still is) a shop called "German Car Care" in Redwood City (right off El Camino), run by a full-blooded, imported, been-doing-this-for-years German named "Willie" (don't remember his last name). Straight shooter. Good guy.

Does anyone know of a quality body shop in the SF Bay Area that has expertise/ability and interest in older MB's ?
I have a 67 250SL that is in need of a paint job.

I'd add Vrooman's Automotive in Artesia. Mike Vrooman used to be Service Manager at House of Imports. He's done several different things for me and I'm very pleased with the service and quality of workmanship, as well as the price. 562-865-5540

Though I don't know of a specific paint shop, I do know a reputable MB mechanic in the East Bay who might point you in the right direction. Call John Uyeyama. He works for the The Best Shop, which used to be called The Benz Shop til good ol MB came down on them for "misusing" the name. This fella helped my with my Check-to-Buy on my current 280SL and really impressed me as to his knowledge. You may get his voicemail so leave a message. He's pretty good about calling back.
