I need the leather re-done on my steering wheel. It's coming off, fraying, and leaving my hands with black 'crumbs' when the temp is right. QUITE ANNOYING!

Does anyone know of a place in Orange County (preferably), SD, LA or anywhere else close by that can do this?

I have looked and no one does steering wheels! The only other option is to buy a new steering wheel, no thanks to $800.00!!

I tried that place in Garden Grove, they can do it for $250.00. I will shop around a little first. They also said that it takes 2 full days to do!? But the 250 includes everything.

Actually, I am still in Colorado. I have purchased a 1986 300e 5 speed from a fellow MercedesShop member in California. I am arranging to have the head fixed so that it is ready for me to swoop in and then drive the car home to British Columbia. We are moving to B.C. May 30th. Before I start the new job, I'm going down to Carlsbad, California to get the 300e and then do a wine tasting tour of the Napa valley.

This is why I love this site. I can find cars for sale, research them, get to know people and find good help where ever I may need it. No other car has this kind of support, (that I know of), to go along with the inherent safety, performance and looks. I'm hooked.

For a description of the problems I was experiencing with rough cold idle in my 1991 420SEL, and how the local authorized M-B dealer couldn't fix the problem please refer to the TECH section.

I finally went to an independent mechanic. He was able to diagnose the problem and fix it, at a fraction of the cost of what the dealer wanted to charge me to replace parts that were not even broken. The shop's name is CHRISTENSEN MOTORS, in the city of Ventura, California.

The shop owner's name is Norman and the phone number there is 805.658.2978. If you are in need of a good M-B shop in this area, give him a try, you'll be glad you did.

I've been looking to have mine rewrapped myself, but I am not about to take it to the guy who did the interior in my father's Rolls. IT looked great for about a year, but then started looking liek it did before he took it there.

If I can't get it rewrapped, I'm just going to have to hold my breath and pray I win an auction for one on E-bay or find one in a local newspaper.

I see plenty of ML Wheels, S Class wheels, and SL Wheels all over, but never any W124 steering Wheels like mine.

I have a friend who does custom multimedia systems in cars and such, he knows an interior guy who is supposed to be pretty good, I'll ask him for the guys name.

I'm having my pilars done by a interior restoration shop in Hollywwod. He's been there for ever and there is always a big dollar car or two being worked on. I'll let you know.

Are your pilars leather!? I can't imagine they are.
Does this place do leather on steering wheels? I have had such trouble since the "machine" to stitch the leather around the wheel seems rare among shops.

If the pillars were not leather they soon will be. I'll ask if they do steering wheels. Machine? I assumed the machine was of the opposable thumb variety.
