Other possible shops in (Southern) California.
International Automotive Technicians' Network; iATN Repair Shop Finder.
http://www.iatn.net/shopfinder/ Bosch Authorized Automotive Service. http://www.boschservice.com/FindSvcCenter/Pages/FindingaServiceCenter.aspx All sponsor members of iATN agree to an ethical code of conduct as part of our obligation to our customers. There is however still the need to check locally on a shop for references. Not all those listed are service shops...some are VoTech's and other specialized businesses. The list now covers the whole world and every continent. Need to bookmark this if your are traveling out of your home area. Those highlighted in 'blue' are sponsor members. ASE—Certifying the Automotive Professional Finding a competent auto technician need not be a matter of chance. Much of the guesswork has been eliminated, thanks to national program conducted by the non-profit National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). http://www.ase.com/bluesealsearch/locator.php Last edited by whunter; 03-06-2010 at 09:12 PM. |

San Diego, North County, Escondido
I just had a good experience with Bill Barclay, owner of International Auto Repair & Restoration.
He checked and replaced my timing chain and adjusted the valves, no problem. Small, independent shop (my personal preference). He prefers the older cars like my 1984 300SD. He is so old school that he does not even own a computer, so you have to call him for an estimate. 146 N. Vinewood Escondido, CA 92029 760-598-6649

Just had a great experience with a mobile Mercedes Mechanic in Los Angeles, and wanted to share. I've looked for a shop in LA for quite a while now, and haven't found anything close to where I live - Downtown LA.
I needed the brakes done on the wagon, so checked out "general" brakes specialists which led me to Mobile Brake specialists. I called one which contracted it out to this guy - Daniel @ MBZ Mobile 310-497-0482. So, Daniel shows up to my place at 8pm on Friday night, because that's when I get home from work. He swapped out the front pads and rotors with the OEM pads and rotors he'd picked up at the MBZ Dealer in Encino earlier that day (using his discount). Mind you, he had to call three dealers to find my parts in stock and took the time to go out of his way to go pick them up before we even met. All said and done, $525 for front brakes. Very reasonable, especially after I'd been quoted $625 and $750 by the brick-and-mortar shops. As soon as you start talking to this guy, he spews Mercedes facts and knowledge as he worked for a Mercedes dealer in Van Nuys for 20 years and now only works mobile. Incredible experience that I wasn't expecting from a "mobile mechanic". He's professional, smart, respectful and very serious about your car. If you ask him, he will tell you everything you want to know about your car and then some. He can handle a lot of repairs out of that well-organized van. You should give him a try.

A great shop for Mercedes in the LA area is Silver Star Service in Monterey Park. They are on Garvey Avenue. Very competent, fair prices, trustworthy and they go out of their way to ensure that the job is done right - both newer and classic Mercedes. The owner is Robert Wong.

AC shop for my W126 San Pedro
Does anyone know a reputable shop that can service the AC system in my W126? I live in San Pedro, CA. It doesnt blow cold intermittently. Apparently the previous owner had part of the system's plumbing converted to R134, but not all of it. That is the story from my current shop. Is it possible to have both R12 and R134 plumbing and still have an operational system? If so, could that be the reason my AC blows cold often but fails to blow cold sometimes? Thanks in advance for any advice

Circle Star in van nuys
German Motor Car Services in Santa Monica Pacific Motors in Santa Monica Circle Star is cheaper generally; Herbert at German does all the high end older stuff eg gullwings as well as newer, and does it right. Pacific is very familiar with most any Mercedes and they are nice. Getting your car serviced in Santa Monica will never be cheap, as a rule. |

Integrity Motors Mercedes Service in Anaheim has treated me well. Fixed my dads 1997 E300D in less than a week after another shop "diagnosed the issue" for 5 months. Has done a lot of work on my 1979 240D as well. Was recommended to me by a neighbor with a 1980 300D. Very reasonable pricing as well.

For Mercedes work in Northern San Diego County:
Paolo's Auto Service 371 South Rancho Santa Fe Road San Marcos, CA 92078 760-744-9020 Two things impress me about Paolo's Auto Service. First, he is very good at diagnosing problems. He spends some time to really verify a problem before he dives in and orders parts. Second, he knows the older Mercedes cars really well since his father used to service them "in the old country" (Italy). He also does the new stuff really well, including the commercial Sprinter vans. If you want him to service your car, but you want to bring your own parts, he will do that for you as well. This is important because a lot of us vintage Mercedes owners squirrel away parts for future use. Most shops will not use your parts. Prices are somewhat lower than other independent shops in the area. |
