Cracked Behr Radiator Neck, L.A., CA.
I was given this shop as a lead to repair a cracked Behr Radiator Neck.
I called them on 9/1/06 and they told me that they can replace the Behr radiator top tank on a R129, flush, and refill the system for $361. Note: They do not refill with MB coolant. So you may want to provide your own. That is a big savings over a R&R a new Behr Radiator at $580.00 MSRP and labor for a 2000 SL500. Rick @ 818-761-5195 Pacific Radiator, L.A., CA.

$850.00?
I replaced my radiator with a new behr radiator and mb coolant and it cost me less than $300.00 I guess it depends on the car though. I believe the radiator brand new costs anywhere from $200 - $500.00 Max. Alon

There is a kit to fix this available...
If the neck is cracked, but the rest of the radiator is OK, you can TRY the kit from Merscedessource that comes with a piece of metal pipe that will fit in the neck and epoxy to glue it in.
Personally, I would just spring for a new radiator. Mine cost just 200 bucks for the 300SD and took less than a half hour to R&R...

Are the radiators for the Euro 126ers different?

Yeah, they're different, depending on whether or not your vehicle is equipped with an oil cooler.

This one interests me... Oil cooler? Hmmm There is another radiator in front of the main radiator It also has a fan Is that AC related? My 83 500 SEC radiator is a Behr Part number begins w 126.. I have a pic Just got the car Its not really been used more than 300 miles in over 4 years Been trying to resolve a hot engineproblem but thinking it could be a gauge malfunction sinc eI have seen a waivering oil temp guage... Thanks! Last edited by CamelotShadow; 09-03-2007 at 12:01 AM. |

Guess there is not a oil cooler unless it doesn't look like a radiator Last edited by CamelotShadow; 09-03-2007 at 02:35 AM. |

Nope, some gray model versions were so equipped, but no U.S. versions.

So if my Euro was not equipped with a oil cooler does that mean that it takes the same radiator as the US version? Thanks I have a BEHR 126 505 0155 http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/attachments/tech-help/47455d1188422722-upgrade-83-mer-500-sec-88-volvo-gle-mbradiator.jpg Last edited by CamelotShadow; 09-03-2007 at 02:41 PM. |
