Body Shop In L.A. Metro Area ? (will Travel)
I need some body & paint work done and don't want tons of bondo , overspray and wood screws holding my lenses on when I get it back ~ any suggestions ? .
I'm in Pasadena , Central L.A. , Southbay and am willing to travel for a decent place . W-123 of course . TIA , |
Have you considered the MBUSA Classic Center in Irvine? Bound to be pricey, but then you sound like the kind of guy who wants it done right. Someone who wants a shop that will sweat the details. Just a thought.

The Classic Center
Oh yes indeedy I have ! :P .
I'm just a Blue Collar schmoe is the problem . Were I a rich man , I'da taken it there first... We got the new radiator and AC condensor in along with new receiver - dryer and oil hoses so now it's time to begin the underhood and chassis cleaning , tune up and so on , I've decided to source up a replacement RF fender as it has several dents , PO-A-P is full of them , The Classic Center sells new ones for $150 so no worries there . It's almost road ready , we couldn't find the R-12 adapter yesterday so once the AC is re - charged (Ester oil is in already) , I'll rustle up a perfect euro bumper from my pile o' spares and begin dragging it 'round the body shops . I'm re-charging it with R-12 at it's BIG inside and I doubt the back will be cool in the Mojave Desert with R-134a in it . I really thought I'd get some responses here as the cars I see at the GTG's are amazing . FWIW , I buy lots of niggly little parts from The Classic Center as they're always correct and the best stuff too , no hassles , I just send 'em the VIN and the correct , ' Just So ' parts arrive on my door step in a day or three . |
Any leads on a good w123 body shop in LA/OC? Besides the dealer....
I just rammed into a parking structure column- not happy :( |
Still Looking.......
I'll post if ever I find a trustworthy body shop ~ the place that laid terrific paint on my Euro Spe.c TD , let some ********* do the re assembly part and they broke all the plastic lenses, as TD taillights are good guy priced @ $200.00 EACH  I'm not pleased....
Be sure to go look at the finished works of any body shop you consider , I got screwed on a total repaint of my old 1980 Diesel Coupe , so badly , I had to sell the car after a $2,500 re spray . |
My cars always to to European Auto Body (EAB) in North San Diego County (Escondido).
Just had a thought of asking Enrique at MR MB Motors in Encino, CA for a recommendation. |
ok, so i just went to Anaheim Hills Auto Body - because they are MB certified and looked like a small family bussiness - they are actually a huge operation. they quoted me 7000$ to fix my right front fender, and paint the whole car. They did mention they would have to take all the trim off (and apparently that is costly?! - ha!)
im contemplating going on a road trip to Mexico and get it painted down there. anyone want to come? :) oh - BTW Maaco wants $4000, apparently my 31 year old paint job has minute cracks that require the whole car be stripped. |
Re Painting
Yes , for a really nice re spray all the exterior trims must be removed and that's usually where the troubles begin ~ they'll damage them , leave off some of the myriad tiny washers & nuts that prevent leaks , break the lenses so on and so forth .
A cracked up previous re spray rarely needs stripping , it does require total scuffing though and this like all other aspects of proper body works , is very time consuming . There are good body shops in Mexico , so far I've never found one anywhere near the border though . A buddy of mine just had his W-123 done in Mazatlan and still paid $2K + , he's quite pleased with the works tho' . |
