I have a 1985 Mercedes 300D with a 722.3 automatic transmission that is either shifting hard or floating between 2-3. No matter what my mechanic does it goes one way or the other. He has checked all the vacuum valves and replaced the modulator yet nothing changes. The car has about 123000 on it.

Can anyone advise someone who can repair it in the San Bernardino Ca area?

The very best Mercedes transmission shop in So Cal is Sun Valley Mercedes Transmissions located in Van Nuys. They have a great web site with lots of technical tips for MBZ transmissions. Ask for Marc.

I've got about a 125,000 miles on a Sun Valley (located in the Burbank Area) rebuild for my 300sdl. I just drove over there and they swapped out my original trans that was leaking oil from the front pump seal and flaring between shifts. They performed the swap while I waited (approx. 2 1/2 hrs).

Just turned over 400,xxx miles....shifts great and no leaks. Cost me about $1,400...well worth it. Hassel Free

P.S. while I was there waiting for the install I saw two guys that I think were pro ball players (deep pockets) bring their really vintage cherry MB's in for transmissions. I imagine they could have gone anywhere but chose Sun Valley. Also don't let the area unnerve you....old time salvage yards.

Sounds like a K1 accumulator problem. I just swapped mine out in my 300D, and it solved the flaring.

$13 from Pelican, an couple hours tops to DIY. Cheers!
