Thumbs down

I took my 99 E430 to the Markham dealership for FSS A, coolant flush, and brake fluid flush. After 1500 miles or so, the car developed an engine oil leak around the oil filter. I tried to open that oil filter cap to see if the technician might have forgotten to put the rubber o-ring around the cap. The oil filter cap was extremely tight. The technician must have over tightened the cap. I replaced the all the o-rings and filter. It seems fine now. But I have a lot of cleaning to do. The belly pan and radiator have oil all over them.

I would expect this kind of thing happen at the quick oil change service centers. This really upset me that it happened at the MB dealership. The oil filter cap even has torque specification and directional arrow imprinted on it. Somehow the technician was daydreaming on my car.

Thanks!

I actually live near Osoyoos, but we moved here from Whidbey Island, and get over there frequently, usually on Hope-Princeton. My Indy is in W-I, and have to go there for the more serious jobs, and to catch-up on current events.

My 300TD will eventually be needing some trans work, and I'm keeping my eyes open for potential suppliers/rebuilders.

I appreciate your assistance.

I'm toying with the idea of some high performance upgrades on the order of the old C-111 prototype, upgraded turbo, cam and injector pump/injectors (remember that? 250 hp and 212 mph for 24 hours@ 17mpg?!) Talk about a "Q-ship!"

see my 300SD here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/29311-lets-all-post-pic-our-benz-s-post480206.html#post480206

Happy Motoring!

I Fix MB

I have recently found a mechanic in the south end of Mississauga, close enough to be called Toronto. He is David Kirby on Haig Blvd., near Dixie, south of the QEW. Phone (416) 617-7484. He is a master MB mechanic, very knowledgable and efficient. He use to be a shop foreman at one the MB dealers in Toronto. He also has spare used parts. Try him for your next problem. Tell him Joe, recommended him.

In the Oakville area I've had some success with Cross Ave Auto and Oakville Imports.

I've also heard good things about Clarkson Fine Cars on Clarkson Rd. in Mississauga.

Clarkson Fine Cars

Clarkson Fine Cars is awesome.. The shop owner Andy is great and knows these cars well. He worked at an MB dealer in the late 80's and through the 90's, so he knows all of our cars really well.

Great shop in Halifax NS

Bert Page at EuroWerks........................Halifax
I went in today without an appointment, had what I thought was alternator or battery problem. First he checked the battery condition, then he tried a voltage regulator, then a alternator. Ended up being a bad fuse. About 1.5 hours $56.00 What a deal. This man knows Mercedes!!!!!

Kromer Radio. They're not the cheapest, but quite reasonable and they know their stuff. (http://www.kromerradio.com/)

Excellent Toronto mechanic

Hi Guys,

For a good mechanic in the Toronto area, try Charlie McNally at McNally auto. He is very reasonably priced and really knows his stuff. Best of all, he will never encourage you to spend more than you need to.

Thanks, Andrei
