Does any know of a good MB tech. in the greater Toronto area?

E. Lee 07-10-2000 11:57 PM

Hi,

Yes, I know an MB tech in Toronto (Woodbine/Denison). He is a certified MB Tech and has worked for Zung Fu (the sole distributor/dealer of MB in Hong Kong) for 20+ years. He has also worked for an MB dealership in Toronto for 4+ years.

Now, he's working for an independent shop that specializes in MBs and Volvos. This mechanic is really good and the prices are quite good too (if you pay him cash, then the prices are even better :)) He's been looking after my 1988 300E for almost two years now and he really knows his stuff.

The owner of that independent shop is a former service advisor at a Volvo dealership in Toronto. Actually, I think the mechanic maybe a partner in the shop too...not sure.

Anyway, if you are interested, I'll post his contact info here. Let me know.

In my opinion, the best place for service would be at the Mercedes dealership at the Richmond Automall. I would recommend Nelson Wong, since I have dealt with him before. However, C.C. Chen use to perform service on my BMW, and I am sure he is just as capable w/ MB's.

Andy, wut do you think???

He has been my mechanic for the last three years (he services other member's cars as well, I was referred to him by my heretic friend, he drives a Bimmer :-)) and I am very happy with the service I am getting. Usually same day service if possible (my alternator quit this afternoon around 1pm by 4.30 pm I was on the road again). He uses new, rebuilt or used parts (if available) your choice, also installs parts that customers bring in. I found him very knowledgeable about Benzes and BMWs. His hourly rate is very competitive.
Give him a try and decide for your self. The shop is in the Dufferin Rd.(Allen Road) -- Finch Ave. West area in an industrial mall.

Thanks Dacia,

My brother gave him a call, he referred my brother to a 300D 2.5 Turbo and my brother got it.

Appreciate your help,

After having trouble booking appointments with dealers on Steels and Kennedy I called my old independent mechanic in Halifax and got the number of North Hill Auto Service in Richmond Hill. The two guys, Peter Weber and Bruno Burlon are both very friendly and knowledgable. Both have worked for MB shops and have run this Mercedes Service shop for 15 years. I have seen many w126, w140, 300Es and some diesles in the parking lot there so they probably can service anything MB makes that is out of warranty. I was very impressed with the service there.

I can't say for sure, but I just had a great job done by a guy by the name of Ziggy Doberstein (Master Mechanic at 1128 Wilson Av.)

He used to work for the Mercedes dealership on Steeles for about 20 years then went solo about 6 years ago or so.

In a year of headaches in trying to get my car running smoothly, he fixed it last Friday for about $200 or so and it runs like a dream.

his number is: (416)638-6539

Good Luck !

I have also been at Z. Doberstein's garage a couple of years ago, however I found him a bit expensive and hard to deal with (he is rather moody). The guy I (and most of my friends with german cars) vouch for is Charlie McNally at McNally's auto in the Finch/Dufferin area in North York. He is very friendly, knows Benzes and Bimmers inside out, gets a lot of business from independent Merc. dealers in the area (there are a lot of them).
He even gives you a loaner (it is not a Merc. but no charge :-))if you are badly in the need of wheels. All he is asking for is to put gas in it when you return it. His prices are pretty reasonable too. He is an Irish fellow with a thick accent which I find endlessly amusing.
I talk to him just hear it.:-)

Any know of any experienced perfromance shops for Benzes?

I'm looking for a shop who has experioences with C36's.

Anyone every goto the shop on Bayview and Green Lane called Lee's Auto? Thye always have some supercars parked outside like a couple 911 turbo's, M series, AMG series cars. I've heard some good and not so good stories about them. Just wanted some feedback.

Thanks.

I recently talked to Wayne Ayers at European Specialty Car Services in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, 250-758-3288. Wayne was very helpful in diagnosing a vacuum leak that I had. He was willing to look at the car right away but gave me a list of possible things to check based on the symptoms. The first and second hoses he suggested were cracked. So, while he never did see my car, he certainly knew the model and was great to talk to.

I took my 300E to Wayne to repair a number of things:
- fix headlights
- fix odometer
- change oil
- repair A/C and convert to R134:eek:

The repairs were well done and the cost was great at about $2000US total. Parts prices were a lot, but labor was more than reasonable. Wayne really knows MB and is fun to talk to. His wife is also very involved in the business and very fun too.
