My 300sd was in to Forli Motors for some work 1000 KM ago, including "check and tension belts" and a full valve adjustment. He charged me $200 labour for the valve adjustment.
Well, took the car to the Detroit tech session this weekend and we discovered
- all valves were incorrectly adjusted (all too tight)
- alternator belts were way loose and the adjuster bolt was seized - had not been moved in a long time!
The car had been previously inspected underneath by Forli and he told me it was in great shape. Well in 5 minutes we discovered a leaking diff oil seal, a chafing brake line, oil leak from the oil filter housing gasket and a poorly repaired fuel hose. All of these are typical problems with these older cars.
I am disappointed rather than angry. I will now be making the drive out of downtown to Mcnally for jobs I do not want to do myself.
Not impressed.
