1993 W124 sedan speaker upgrade

Any recommendations for a co-axial (tweeter & midrange) in the kick-panel (to be built); mid-bass/woofer in the stock door-panels; and a matching cross-over ?

TIA,
:-) neil

Heads up, the speakers are not easy to remove and the sizes are not typical.

Doesnt it seem like every week we get a new kid on this site with 124 speaker/subwoofer questions?

Use the search.

Neil,

Are you keeping the woofers in your custom door panels and adding a kickpanel to that setup? What size are you looking to go for in the kickpanel? Let me know how the kickpanel works out - I was looking to get that done but the pesky parking brake seems to be in the way...

Neil, the Jehnert setup is pretty good. I like mines, although they are nothing more then MB Quart relabel (I took the Jehnert sticker off and found the MB Quart label).

neil, you should be able to fit a 6.5" in the factory door speaker location where the factory door subs were. unless your car has a different setup.

As far as a recomendation on a mid/tweet combo for your custom kick panels, I like JBL speakers. The Power Series sound very nice, or if you want super high end, the JBL GTI series is very nice.

In the dash location I know you can get away with a 4" with a little creative bracket making maybe even a 5.25" if you can get them in there, but I opt for putting tweeters in that location for myself.

Any good component set with come with a matching crossover to handle the component set.

I personally like the sound of the JBL speakers. Though the infinity kappas or infinity kappa perfects sound very nice too. I have heard both, and to be honest they both sound very good.

You can always go with MB Quart if you prefer.

There is plenty you can do, if you plan it out.

In my car I opted for installing the aftermarket speakers in stock locations. To me it sounds great, to others maybe it doesn't.

It all depends on how extreme you want to go. I'm a big fan of the stealth install myself.
