Nokia Car Kit Help
I just had my existing Nokia hands free car kit installed in my 95 S350. Everything seemed to work fine, except when I tried to use the hands free part of my phone, the party on the other end of my call can not hear me over the roar. The tech at Best Buy who did the install said he has tried everything he knows, but to no avail.
This car kit that I have also has the seperate hand set, when I use it, the noise is not as bad, just when I try to use totally hands free. This kit was taken out of a 2000 Ford Explorer that worked fine. Any ideas anyone? Thanks, |

where is the mic located?
What power source did he tap into? Where is the speaker in relation to the microphone? Are there any tears int he microphone cabling? These are all things that can be the cause of problems. the reason I ask this is that I have installed tons of car kits in everything from ferrari's to honda's, and a lot of it has to do with those things. power source, location of mic and speaker (if they are too close it can cause noise, or if the mic is on the left a pillar it can get wind noise etc.), and if there are any cuts in the cable. The audio tech that put my car phone kit in, tied into the power source to the radio, however, he tried running a direct line from the battery to try and see if that would have an effect, it did not.
The mike is located on the dirivers side pillar, but we get noise even at stand still, just motor running. We don't think the wire has any problems, it worked fine in the last car it was in. The speaker is in the foot well of the passenger side. thanks for the questions any other ideas? 1eyedal |

Relay?
Did the tech use a relay to cut the power to your head unit or amp? they sometimes do this to mute the system while you are on the phone, problem is the relay will have an ill effect in an audio system if it is used to cut the head unit and not the amp, (if it cuts the amp, it can drop the antanae too on some models) if the amp is still powered while on the phone, you will get a loud electrical noise. Ask him if he did this, it could be a problem. I installed a hands free in my car, the motorola, I have had no problem, but I have a factory head unit with the phone mute feature, if you have an aftermarket head unit with no mute feature they will likely use a relay so when the ground hits it, it disconnects the power to the head unit. Let me know what you find! Good luck!

I've come across this in other cars where the ignition source produced engine noise. have him try wiring it constant power and see if that helps if it does look for a different ignition source.
otherwise it could be something in the brain went bad. Alon

To Ashman, thanks for the Nokia Phone help
Ashman, thanks for your advise,. I pulled the microphone cable out today and found a tear in the outer covering, exposing the inter sheild cable. Put a new mic in and the phone works great, thanks for your help
