w140 Needs More Bass

I have the bose beta system, and I was wondering while keeping all of the origional equip if it was possible to add on a sub? Is this something that someone could do themselves, or is this a job for a shop? Or is it even possible with the exsisting equipment?
thanks
bob

Yes, you can hook up a subwoofer to your existing system. In order to control the bass, you will need a seperate bass knob. Depeding on how familar you are with wiring and electronics, you could hook up you own subs, but a shop would probably charge around 105 usd.

It does have good bass, However with the windows open and the volume louder, the bass sounds distorted and im afraid to turn it up louder in fear of blowing the speakers

You can crank it...nothing will happen as its a powerful enough system and the amp controls the distortion.

i added a 8" sub in the rear armrest hole - some modification / fabrication was required. hooking it up is a different matter - but lots of amps have a speaker level input - you could tap into the lines to the rear speakers....

I use an Infinity Basslink unit, which can be tapped into either a low level output from a HU, or the high level rear speaker leads. I was told by a repairman that there is no real advantage of one over the other, sound wise, so I chose to use the speaker leads.
I'm curious about the Bose system, though, because it seems like everyone on this forum has a problem with the way in which the speakers are configured. Are they self-contained amp/driver units, or something wildly different than a normal 4ohm speaker?
It would seem that there has to be some end-wire connection to the speakers, even if they are individually driven off separate amps, and if the impedence is 4 - 8 ohms, you could still tap into them for an input to the sub-amp (that is, if the sub amp can accept a line level input signal).
Anyone have a good link explaining how the Bose system is configured?

PS: I believe the FM modulator is used to send an FM signal, from some source like a CD player, to the HU's FM receiver, through an antenna connection, avoiding the need to wire directly into the HU's amp circuitry. I can't see how that would help you though.
