Mercedes 600SEL '92 Becker Mexico 1431
I wonder if someone could help me. There seem to be a lot of knowledgable people on the site.
I have a Merc 600 SEL '92 with a Becker Mexico 1431 stereo. The car is in mint shape however I took the car to a dealership due to a slight buzz on one of the speakers. When the dealership were done with the car the stereo did not work at all and they told me that the amplifier has blown!! At this point nothing works on the radio, and when I enter the code I merely get a blinking 'wait' message on the display. Despite numerous attempts Mercedes refuses to take responsability since 'the car was brought in for car audio repair originally'. I have asked around for a new amplifier however the cost seems to be astronomical. Can anyone suggest a replacement new system instead of the Becker system or a source for a second hand amplifier that I could have fitted. Thank you for your help, Vatche |

You will not be able to enter the security code until "code" is displayed on the head unit. I had to wait several days before the "wait" mode cleared.
You can exchage the amplifier(s) at Becker North America. http://www.beckerautosound.com/

Many years ago when I had my 1992 500SEL, I experienced the same problem. It took a LONG time for the code to allow the amp to power up, but eventually it did, even the Benz dealer didn't know, but apparently the more you try to put the code it, the longer it will take for it to allow the proper code to power up the amp.
