I have a 1992 SL500 and interested in upgrading the stereo. There are a number of different head units available for the W129 series, but I am not so sure about speakers. Are there any good replacement speakers out there that don't require significant modifications to the door panels, etc.? Any information is helpful!

If the R129 speaker size is similar to the A, C or E class models, you may want to check Rainbow speakers.

I have a set of fronts in our W124 and they sound fine.

On my 92 400se (W140) with the Becker/Bose combination sound system, I have Bose 2ohm speakers. I'm unsure of the sound system in the w129, but if you have the Bose with the Becker tuner/headunit, this can be a complicated task. Are you're planning to replace the MB stock system with all aftermarket components? Do the W129's also have the dual speakers in the doors?

I'm in the process of replacing the head unit in my 93 400e. It doesn't seem nearly as complicated as my w140 Bose system.
