Loud Feature on deck

Recently I got a new Pioneer deck in my car, 15inch rockford sub and 400w amp which is clarion. There is plenty of bass. The deck has the loud feature found in most decks to make the sound better....it has Loud (low, mid, high). When I got the car done the shop left the loud off but I tried it on loud low and the sound from the speakers is much better and clearer and the sub was hitting harder but I did lower the bass level on it after.

Is this feature safe for the sub? The sub's bass is more vigorous now but im just worried about blowing it up or something? I dont crank it all the time but sometimes I do. I want the loud on because it makes the other speakers sound better and clearer.....not really for bass reasons.

Use the loudness feature as long as the sound from the speakers is not distorted. That's when you'll blow a speaker.

Speakers are sounding much more cleaner and crisp with the loud on and dont distort. Im just worried about the sub? Its more vigorous now and you can tell its working a bit harder....would I be pushing it too much still?

I have mine on loud high on my pioneer. the trick is to tweak the settings on that loud high setting for bass, treble, eq etc. so there is no distorsion

yup I spent 20mins tweaking it and no distortion.....partly because my deck has independent sub controls and then the other controls are for the speakers themselves.

I find the most pleasing sound in my car is with the bass & treble set to flat and the loudness on the first setting. That gives the most natural reproduction (in my cars, anyway). Sounds like you got your just where you want it. Just listen for distortion. Sometimes it's hard to tell if a speaker is distorting or a piece of the trunk/deck/etc... is vibrating and making noise. I had a foam surround disintegrate on an MTX box once and it sounded just like a rattle I had been fighting in the hatch in my Mustang. It didn't occur to me that it was the voice coil dragging until I saw the damaged surround. Needless to say, I took it out to glue in a new surround right away.

Anyhow, just listen for distortion and you'll be fine!

I ended up turning the loud settings off today as I cranked this one song and it was hitting hard but wasnt hitting the way I wanted it to.

Now its better a bit with the loud off and the bass and treble higher.
