Becker 4602 install in W140
Just put a Becker 4602 into my 1996 W140. Was looking for a CD player in the dash and an AUX input for my iPod/Sirius/XM. Looked at lots of aftermarket units, but they're all too flashy and don't look right (IMHO). Also, they obviously require wiring an adapter, and possibly bypassing amps, etc.
Total time for the 4602 install was about a minute... maybe two minutes max. The W140 wiring harness plug for the radio section just plugs in. The original CD changer plug does not fit... it is not compatible with the new radio (nor is the changer from my understanding). The 4602 will control an external changer if desired. Becker has an adapter that plugs into the 4602 changer port that allows the input of another audio source. Plug the adapter in, push the CD button twice, and "AUX" appears on the radio display. With an iPod connected, who needs a CD changer? Can't tell any difference in the sound between the original radio and the 4602, but new radio has the features I wanted and doesn't require changing the car. Looks correct in the dash too.
