Question Becker radio - Volume Control

The volume control on my Becker radio no longer controls the volume.

The flip type control - push down to lower volume and up for louder sounds.

I push down - no effect - music last set too loud - can't listen any more. Ouch

So what should I do to replace / repair the volume control.

Does the entire radio need replaced. or is there an option with the faceplate?

Also - please advise what model of Becker radio I have.

Car: 1993 Mercedes 500SEL (140 chassis)

As an interim step, at least until you fix the problem, try pressing the "Treble" and "Bass" buttons simultaneously for a few seconds. This resets the Bass, and Treble to their middle position, but if I remember correctly, it also resets your Volume to a more acceptable listening level.

The faceplate can be replaced, your dealer might have them, Becker also. There was an exchange program at one time. If you get to the Becker page they also show authorized repair facilities. I think you have the 1432 Gran Prix, which is a two- pice radio. I also think in 95 it was changed!

Thnaks - but ...

Pressing the two buttons did reset the trebble and bass, but not the volume.

Planning on getting a rebuilt Becker this week.

Becker 1432 for sale

I have a Becker 1432 for sale. About 5 minutes after I bought it on Ebay, I realized that it was part of the 2 piece system and not compatible with my car. Are you interested?

It just occurred to me that by removing the radio fuse for at least 20-Min, you can probably get your Volume control to Reset to a more normal level.

If you do do that, make sure that you have your Radio code on hand.

Thumbs up Thanks for the replys

I took the car with teh radio to the Becker North America (main base) in Upper Saddle river, NJ.

The team there came out, removed the face plate - no tools. It just pops off.

He looked at it and smiled. After a few minutes of rebuilding it - all is well. $10 resolved the issue.

If teh rebuild approach didn't work, a new face plate would have worked, and cost $80. I was expecting to buy a rebuilt radio - but was not necessary.

end of story - the radio is all better, the faceplate was rebuilt.

Never got a chance to try the fuse approach - family would have appreciated it.
