95 E320 Toruing Antenna .....

The antenna on the wagon will not go up or down. I removed it and determined that with an external power source it does work.

I tried supplying current to the little black box above the antenna unit but it didn't respond.

Am I correct in suspecting this little black box? What does it do?

Thanks

Haasman

Does it make any noise at all when you turn on the radio and it suppose to extend? I'm waiting for mine to fail because it sounds strained lately, maybe just the cold weather though.

I would start with giving the mast a good cleaning and then lube it.

If the antenna is bad, replace it.

If the motor needs attention, it isn't too hard to take out, clean and then lube.

Antenna for Wagon

I believe the antenna for the wagon shares the positive voltage from the wire going to the amp that is located nearby.

I would check the connection between the amp and the antenna for voltage. If none, disconnect the amp, turn on the radio and see if the amp is getting voltage. If not, the radio itself could be the problem.

I believe the amp only powers the speakers in the front doors (woofers) and you might be able to bypass it if it were bad - or find a used one on Ebay.
