Looking for recommendations on a new in-dash CD player head for my 300TE.

The factory head w/ cassette is $900!!

Any ideas for me?

Additionally, I have been told at the audio shop that an aftermarket head will not work with stock amplifiers.

I'd like to self-install w/ help from Crutchfield, but am nervous about the amp/crossover, etc. issues.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm not sure, but i think you may be able to find adapters that will allow you to use your current amplifiers. I know for sure that factory amps generally dont work with new speakers, because they run at very low resistance levels, but i think using your existing amps may not be a problem. Nakamachi (probably spelled that wrong), clarion, kenwood excelon and pioneer's high end head units are all very solid.

Head unit

Firstly, an after-market Becker head unit is not $900, unless you buy from a dealership. If you buy straight from Becker, an aftermarket head unit is approximately $400. Tell them the car you have, and they will send all the adapters to wire into your existing amps/crossovers perfectly w/out splicing, soldering etc. Furthermore, it looks better, fits better, and has Mercedes-Benz written on the CD player (pretty cool).

This is to "Moyukh" what;s that about new speakers. One of my speakers is blown and I am looking for a replacement. A new one will not work???

I'm not positive, but generally the factory amps run at strange resistance levels; ive seen bose systems doing like 1.33 or less than 1 ohms. Unless you get the same speaker, you'll be better off getting a second external, aftermarket amp and replacing both front speakers.

Contact info for Becker

Raghu:

Thanks for the info. I will try to track down Becker on the web.

In case I do not find them, do you know where they are located? Any phone number at your fingertips?

Thanks a million.

Happy Holidays,

C Moss
