My '92 400E rt. frt. speaker randomly shuts off when the stereo is on. If I turn the stereo off, wait a bit, and turn it back on again, it will usually work only to go out later down the road. Sometimes after it goes out it will come back on later by itself. Sometimes it works the entire time I am driving. It does not seem to depend upon hitting a bump to trigger the fault. Any ideas what the problem is? How do I fix it? Thanks.

I too had the same problem (95 E320) in the right front dash speaker. It would come and go. If you turn up the volume loud it would pop back on. I believe there is a defect/problem in the windings of the internal speaker.

My speaker was replaced under warranty, and that fixed it!

One of your amps in the rear is going out, Probably a capacitor inside.

The system is divided in 1/2. One amp powers the left side one the right.

Pull back the trunk panel on the right side, look up near the trunk hinge and you'll see 2 silver electronic boxes. Those are the amps. Try swapping the connectors from one side to the other and see if the lack of sound moves to the other side speakers. If so, that's the one. U can find them used, but you might want to replace the whole system, cheaper and better than what came in the car.
