Question Becker Grand Prix radio code?

I just acquired a 1991 560SEL with a Becker Grand Prix radio, removeable face plate, 10 disc chnager in the trunk. When my mechanic changed the battery on the car, we lost the radio to a "CODE" signal. No books or code cards can be found. Service records show the unit was installed in 1997. The s/n on the back of the face plate is 213011830952466841. My dealer said the code was 12242; however, the radio only accepts a 4 digit code. Anyone have another source for getting this code to unlock the unit? Thanks for all replies.

Need the s/n on the radio itself.

There is a ph # the dealer callls (MB warranty dept) in Jersey with the VIN number of the car and chassis serial number of the radio, and they can find out the correct radio code and update your VMI.

How do I, safely, remove the unit from the dash??

Thanks for the reply. I assume the s/n is on a tag on the unit somewhere?

Chill out!

It is quite obvious that you changed your post from "Here is" to "There is". Thanks for nothing, moron. Better go back on Prozac.

I am chilled out, I added the T in red JUST so you could see it, then made another post to draw attention to my mistake.
I've helped lots of people get their radio code mess straightened out personally. I hope the dealer can help you with yours, because there is little chance now I'm going to be able to help you out what with your little name-calling incident, but I'm sure you're a bright boy and can learn how to delete the post and I'd probably "UH!" forget all about it if you did.

No help for me from Gilly? Say it isn't so!

I suppose you call "help" placing a post that says "call your dealer," right? Gee, nobody ever thought about calling their dealer. Thanks, Mr. Know-it-all. It is axiomatic that some people drink from the fountain of knowledge; however, it is quite apparent that you only gargled.

Sometimes the people you speak to at the dealer may be unaware of this service that the warranty dept in Montvale can provide (free of charge). Many personnel will know enough to run a VMI to get the radio code, but will NOT know what to do if the code doesn't work. The warranty dept will look at the VIN number and radio chassis number and can normally find the problem with the code that way, or can contact the radio manufacturer directly for the code. Sometimes the info will be transcribed incorrectly into the VMI computer, and sometimes MB was actually given the incorrect code number from the manufacturer. So "contacting the dealer" isn't an original idea, but if you may get someone who doesn't know what the next step is if the code is wrong.

You are an idiot, I dont know what you are a doctor of, most times your MB dealer will give you the code, otherwise Becker will sell you the code, get a life!
Gilly has posted more valuable info than you could ever digest..

The last time the dude was online with Mercedesshop was 2/27 at about 730pm, the last time he posted here. It's no big deal, maybe ultimately I did help him. I'm sure his momma loves him..........
