COMAND question
I want the hands free feature in the CLK55, and am in the process of working with Steve, MBenzNL, on the install, but I have a question. What are the COMAND features? I really only want the hands free phone feature, but am uncertain as to what I might be missing if I opt for only the phone install and not the COMAND. Is COMAND really only Nav?
Also, on the hands free phones, are most using the UHI supported phones? If so, or not, for what reasons? Thank you!

I am having Steve do the Command install on my 2000 E430 at the end of this month in Huntington Beach.
I have done a little research on the Command system, so I am not an expert, but from what little I know, it is no different than your current radio, in that it controls a CD changer, the hands-free phone, and the regular radio functions. You can have your cake and eat it too, i.e. you get a navigation system as well as hands free phone.

Thank you suginami! I have found a website I am currently reading to better educate myself with the system. I think I will go ahead with the COMAND, but I really just need the phone feature.
Here is the link: http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/comand_2.0.htm Thank you for the reply!

I hope that you all have done some research on Comand. Most people who have it complain about it. Many aftermarket companies offer a better value that is more user friendly. The Comand unit I played with in a w210, I was not too impressed with. Navigation is not accurate at all for one thing, sends you a great deal out of the way to get to a simple destination.

I'm in the process of educating myself, albeit slowly, but I would like to keep everything MB only. No aftermarket. If it is not accurate, then I am not interested...it at least has to work!

I have found that all Navigation systems are inaccurate to some degree. In the end, though, they are worth it.
In what little research I have done, I learned that they use the mapping software produced by other companies. Most companies, like Mercedes, use the map software from a company called Navtech. They have a website, I think www.navteq.com Navtech also provides the software for the "Neverlost" navigation systems in the Hertz rental cars. Avis also uses the same software in the navigation systems in their rental cars. The mapping software and the actual maps themselves get updated from time to time, as they figure out flaws in their directions.

I also forgot to mention that Yahoo Maps uses the same software from Navtech.
