The 95 E420 I just bought does not have a CD changer. I can buy one through The Star magazine for $395, but the car is not prewired, although the head unit will run the changer. Should I add on, or buy a different head unit and changer and remove the factory radio? Any suggestions on brands or combinations? TYIA

Have you looked in the trunk behind the interior panels for the wire? If it was pre wired it would be in the trunk behind one of the panels somewhere.

I know that BMW Didn't always prewire for a changer, but not sure if benz did or did not.

Wiring the changer wouldn't be too hard. you would have to remove some interior pieces to run the wire it would probably not take too long to do it.

I have a 1994 E420 with the Bose system installed, and it was pre-wired for a CD changer. I believe that it was bundled with some other wiring on the passenger side, behind the trunk side panel, right where the trunk hinge is. I bought an Alpine changer (620 model) at liquidprice.com for less than $200, and then had it installed with a $50 adapter. The first shop I took it to had no real clue where to look, so just make sure the shop you are using is familiar with the car. Even if you do it yourself, you'll probably need to at least buy the adapter from a car audio shop, and an experienced installer will be able to tell you where the pre-wiring is. Hope this helps.
