Hi Folks,

I just bought a 91 300E with 44K miles, garage kept, never driven in the winter and it drives great except for a couple items.

1. The radio/CD player "clicks with a static intermittently. Sometimes when you turn the radio power off and on again it disappears, sometimes it disappears on its own.

2. The car occasionally stalls just after warmup, or during mid warmup (first 10 minutes of driving)

3. Shocks look original and I feel some of the bump in the road more than I'd like. What shocks are recommended/ Springs , anything else also?

4. Any recs for a good Ind. shop near Wayne, PA, Collegeville PA?

Hi Dave,

i can help with a couple of answers- if your shocks are shot you should be able to tell by bouncing each corner of the car and checking for fluid leaks. Also check the suspension's rubber bushings and shock mounts. You want to go with Bilstein comforts for replacements if needed.

Stalling I think may be OVP? try a search- lots people have had this.

good shop- try Dom at DMC Automotive in Jacksonville Road, Hatboro. He was my favourite local tech when I lived in PA & MB trained. His labour rate is fairly high ($75p/h I think) but they're fast, friendly and won't BS you around.

Do you leave your cell phone resting on the console?

Discovered a weird rhythmic clicking with my radio for years, not realizing this.

One day I rested my cell phone on top of my bass amp and it made the same rhythmic clicking!

Many thanks. No leaks from the shocks, but I'll run the bounce test! I'll have my MB mechanic (when I find him/her) check out the bushings, or I'll look myself (not sure what I'd be looking for). I ordered a replacement OVP as this might be an easy fix, if not, sounds like its a good part to have if ever needed.
Hatboro is a bit out of the way, but thanks for the suggestion! May be useful if some major work is ever needed.
