Amplifier: Where should I put it?

I need a recommendation as to were to locate an amplifier in my 1992 300E.

I need to install it as the existing system has stopped functioning. I took an Alpine MRV-F300S amp and an Alpine CDA-7930 tuner with CD out of a Mercedes I sold some years ago and now is the time to put it back in service.

Wiring is no problem. I have identified everything I need. I'm going to tap into the correct wires on the 12 pole connectors for each amp that go to each of the speakers. That way I'll not have to run any speaker wire to the speakers. It's actually an easy installation since I be using RCA cables from the head unit to the amp.

So back to the amp for anyone who has done this were did you put your amp. Mine is 9 7/16" x 2 1/16" x 10 5/8"

why not put it in the trunk? Perhaps mount it to the barrier wall between the fuel tank and the trunk ?

If you're mounting it to the wall against the fuel tank, make SURE you don't put screws into the tank!

I've heard horror stories of having gas smells in the trunk when it's more than half full... because that's the level where the screws go into the tank

I have always mounted amps upside-down under the rear deck. Keeps it out off the way, pretty much not visible unless you look for it, easy to access, and doesn't get banged up by luggage and stuff.

I have recently heard that amps overheat if you do this, but I've done it a lot and never had a problem.

Inverted and suspended from the rear deck should work, but if you want a truly stealth solution, look at under the rear seat bottom, on the drivers side. There should be plenty of room if I remember that alpine amp correctly, I have had amps there in two separate mb's and never had an issue with heat.

This way it, and all its associated wiring, is completely out of sight, and yeah if you do go into the trunk DO NOT drill screws into the fuel tank. I've seen it happen, more than once :(

Take care,

George
