OK, I am ashamed of myself. I am an Information Technology Manager and no slouch when it comes to technology. I bought a '83 300 SD with the original Becker Grand Prix Radio which didn't work, it ended up being the fuse at the back of the radio. The car did not have any manuals with it.

Here's my problem. How do I adjust the clock in the radio and make it display? I have tried everything. There is a emblem with a clock on it and what looks like an tiny LED plus one with an astrix, also a button with a T and one with a H. I have tried all the usual combo's of button pressing with no luck.

I think you have discovered the anti-theft feature which makes the radio inoperable if disconnected (complete power loss) My independent mechanic changed my battery (so the car was completely without power for a while) and when the new battery was put in the radio wouldn't work just like yours. He took it to the MB dealer and they have a code to re-enable the unit. Maybe that is what you will have to do too.

Nope, the radio work's just fine. I just can't figure out how to set the clock and make it display.

1Your radio does not have an anti-theft feature, so you don't need to worry about that. It's a Becker Grand Prix model 612 (later models didn't even have a clock).

I haven't done this for a while, but if I remember correctly:

The little "LED" next to the picture of the clock is *not* a LED. It's a very small button which can be pushed with a ballpoint pen or something similar. Once you press it, you should be able to type in the current time (using 24hr notation, i.e. 4PM would be 16:00).

Once you've entered 4 numbers (if it's morning, enter 9AM as 0900), I think it'll just go about its business. But it's possible you will have to press the little button again to accept the time... I just don't remember well enough.

The '*' button is one of my favorite features of the Becker - it lets you type in the frequency you want to tune to. So for example, you're on 98.5 and you want to tune to 104.7... that would require lots of twiddling/holding of the seek button to get it. But instead you can press the '*' key and then type in '1-0-4-7' using the preset keys, and voila!

As far as the 'T' key - I'm going by memory again - I believe it's a way to set a time for automatic power-on or power-off of the Becker. Not sure what this feature would be useful for unless you sleep in your car...
