sub in a 190E

I am interested in installing a subwoofer in my 190E and am curious to see who else has done this. I am interested about how the sub will perform/sound having the gas tank mounted vertically behind it (directly behind rear seat) or whether it affects quality at all....

Remove the "First Aid" box in the rear deck and that will port the trunk cavity to the cabin. Make sure you "dynamat" or equivalent the inside of the trunk, especially the light light assemblies.

Thanks
I think I will end up porting the first aid kit...
As for the dynamat, can this be found relatively easily in stores? I think I remember reading that this stuff is kinda pricey, about how much you think for doing the whole trunk?

I doubt that you will find Dynamat at stores unless you go to a car audio shop. You can buy cheaper alternatives like Fatmat or B-Quiet which is alot cheaper and they work just as good.

I put a Kicker 12" L7 with a Kicker 400.1 amp in my trunk. I didn't even need to port the first aid kit. That sucker was loud! Definitely put sound deadening material all around your trunk, plus don't forget to do your license plate. Mine rattled a lot. Running your power wires isn't the easiest thing. Definitely keep your RCA lines and power wires on separate sides of the vehicle. I got a loud whirring noise coming from my inside speakers because of this.

When you say you had a whirring noise on your speakers, did you run all new speaker wires too? or was it just the RCA and power wire for the subwoofer that caused a problem?

I ran the positive power and audio cables together up until under the passenger foot area where the power goes through the firewall.

I ran all new speaker wire too. I had a single channel amp for the sub and a four channel amp for the interior speakers. You probably won't have a problem if you're only doing a sub.

I got the sub put in and the only mod I did was take out the plastic tray for the first aid kit. I didnt put sound insulation in or anything else like that and I have no noticeable rattles.
The bass quality seems pretty decent (acceptable for my standards) but I do notice that the bass isn't very "crisp" and clean. (because of the gas tank of course) I know putting sound insulation is recomended for getting rid of rattles, but will insulating the trunk help the bass sound more clear and louder as well?
