Smile 1982 300 sd -126

I recently bought this car without a stereo and speakers. My best solution is 2 alpine 460 speakers for the front and back. I would rather have something nicer or but contending with the existing grills in the back and front I am not sure what else would work. I plan on putting in aa amp possible alpine 240 to go with my pioneer head I already have. I would like some suggestions on the speakers asap driving this great car without tunes should be illegal. thanks for your help... Happy to be a new benz patron

If you have access to a wrecking yard, check out the rear deck of an 86-91 W126 and the front door panels of an 88-91 W126. The rear deck from 86 takes 6.5" speakers. I'm not sure if cutting metal is required. AFAIK, the whole speaker deal is above the metal deck so cutting shouldn't be required. If you're adventurous, try the rear deck of a 560SEL to get the power sushade as well. The front door panels take 6.5" speakers as well using the some of the door pocket. I don't know if cutting metal is required. The trouble with door panels from 88 is that MB went from perforated to pleated upholstery. You'll have to live with upholstery that doesn't match, get 4 door panels, or do some surgery to graft the pocket with speaker provision onto your door panels.

I don't know anything about the Alpine 4x6 speakers you have but it's a really tight fit in the dash of a W126. I have Polk 4x6 speakers with magnets that hit the defroster ducts. I know some Polk 4x6s are a drop-in fit. Not the ones I have.

Good luck.

I was thinking about putting Polk 4x6 DB460s in my front dash, I had them in my rear dash but I got a 91' 560's rear deck..ultimately decided to keep the factory speakers. they sound prettty gooood. So, the polks were not so nice to put in ?
