Cleeve, I have a question for you:

I have a Becker 1432/BOSE/Silverstone equipped 1992 600SEL and have removed the cd changer. I got the car without the cd cassette and figured I could use the trunk space for all the road trips. I removed the extension cord for the round plug routing to the cd changer and plugged it directly into the receiver, but the head unit is not showing a thing...turned on initially, let me enter my radio code as usual, but the screen is blank, and after 10 seconds or so the antenae lowers and the head unit powers down. Do I NEED the cd changer in the circuit?

No Sound
 

Make sure you have the cable from the front of the car head unit is connected to the tuner box in the rear. You should only have the single cable to complete the connection. If it is not connected correctly then you will get an E2 error displayed on the front of the radio.

I have a Becker Grand Prix (Model 754, Serial# - U6781894) in my 1987 300E. The radio won't turn on for some reason since a few weeks ago. I am still troubleshooting the cause, but at the mean time I had dismounted the radio to check the fuse, after disconnecting the power. I would really appreciate help on obtaining the code. I purchased the car from Smyth European in San Jose back in 1987. The VID is WDBEA30D4HA333460.

Thanks Hit Man X and Cleeve for your comment. I vaguely remember there was a radio code stamped on a metal ID tag in the User Manual package. I guess this is not true. Last time after replacing the car battery, I couldn't find this tag and I just had the dealer re-enabled the radio (for $20).

Does this mean my only options are to take the car to the dealer or ship the radio to have it re-enabled? This time the radio doesn't even power on, does this mean the internal battery needs to be replaced in addition? Please advise how much this might cost. By the way the cassette player hasn't worked for quite a while.

Just leave the alarm portion deal disconnected once you have the radio reactivated.
