The diy section on w124 stereo head removal procedures looks mighty complicated.compared to Crutchfield 's notion of lifting the unit out( for cars in general with 2 hooks and attach adaptors and reinsert).
I have installed stereo in a Japanese car ,pretty simple.But if it is as complicated as in the DIY section here,this plus the fact that the previous owner's installer has already caused a crack in the wood trim of the radio console,would leave me NOT wanting to replace the Becker.
Can someone confirm that you DO need to remove ashtray and peel off zebano in order to install a new head unit?

I replaced one aftermarket head unit with another, so I'm not sure how hard it is to remove factory deck. But I can tell you that removing the ashtray takes about 45 seconds so don't let that deter you.
