Anyone know the size of the rear speakers in a 1985 190E? Also if I install a Kenwood KDC215S Radio with CD player, will it work with the standard fader that comes with the car?

The size of any speaker fitting the rear of a W201 is somewhere around small, smaller, smallest. To improve the sound in my former (W201) 190D I found it necessary to make a new hardboard in the rear of my car which was a little higher as the original one to make it possible to fit in useful speakers (without cutting out any of the chassis).
I presume that the Kenwood you're talking about has got a fader itself and therefore you will not need the car's fader anymore. Mercedes put in that fader because their 1985 radio only had two outlets.
Bypass the standard fader and go for the radio's fader!

greetingz,

you're welcome,

For my former 190D I made a rear (MDF) panel in two different layers; The speakers were mounted on the thicker lower layer (which was fixted on the original hardboard) and a thinner (MDF) panel was glued onto the lower one. This top layer had holes for the speaker/s (gratings), was painted black and hat a speaker-friendly upholstery topping (which was in fact a Clarion flag). It was a bit of a fuss to get it in neatly, but was definitely worth the time and costs.

Happy new year to you as well;
greetingz & good luck,
