Getting "E2" message on radio of my 300CE...Help!

I need help and I hope someone can give me the information that I need. My car stereo in my '93 300CE will no longer come on. When I press the power button, the antenna goes up and then I get the digital message "E 2" on the face of the radio...then the antenna goes back down. I had some major work done recently...a main belt had to be replaced and since then I have encountered this problem...of course, just to tease me a bit, every now and then the radio will come on. Can anyone help?

I have a 92 service bulletin and the E2 error code "says" tuner amp will not turn on due to open circuit, poor or no BUS connection between CD and tuner amp or no voltage to tuner amp.
Remedy:
Check BUS cable to CD from tuner
Check fuse at tuner amplifyer
Check for circuits 15 30 31 at tuner
Replce tuner /amp
It is a puzzle to me. I think your car still has the two piece radio/tuner where the control is in the front and the tuner is at the base of the drivers side rearwheel. The BUS cable is what connects the two, or if you have the CD is routed thru the CD back to the tuner Sorry no other info!

Thanks so much for the information. We'll check into it. At least I have an answer as to what the message means! You've been a big help!

E2

I think I may have the answer, see my post on MB Club. I think the secret is the cables when you removed the changer, you have to re-route them back to the non CD configuration. There are two links one shows how to install one, the other to someone who repairs them (radios and that damm "bose"" which I also went thru).

Thanks for the extra info but I didn't have the problem connected to removing the changer...I was just offering that person your response about the E2 message. My problem appeared after a belt broke, the belt that supplies the power steering, AC, etc...when it was repaired, I started having problems with the radio. Since I am not very technically savvy, I can't tell if what you are saying should apply to my problem...then again, I merely pass this info on to my husband so hopefully he can fix it...He just hasn't had the chance to work on it yet.

I do, however, appreciate your responses...I was beginning to feel like I was the only one with this problem and that no one knew what to do.

Debbie
