radio cd changer issues 85 300D

I have an 85 300D that I bought recently. It came with a aiwa 5 disc cd changer mounted in the trunk. The control for it seems to work, it reads the cd's changes them etc...but the radio does not work. I assume this is somehow hooked to the radio for volume control purposes and what not. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the radio? Or anything else I might do?

Thanks
Kevinlee

Are you using the head unit to control the changer, or those small little MP3 plyer looking things. If the mp3 looking thing, then that means its not connected to the head unit. If it it connected to the head unit, check the connections in the back. Especially antenna. Don't mess w/ speaker wires if its connected to head unit

I'm not sure what you mean by head unit. The cd changer has a little remote type divice with led lights and buttons on it to change, skip cd's. But I don't see anyway to control volume so I figured it had to be hooked into the radio somehow. I could be wrong. Can the cd player function independently without the radio?

It is possible that this is connected to the radio via FM Modulation in which case the radio is tuning the CD thru a spot on the FM band..If the radio is not working however it is a mute point...Pull the radio and check to see if it is get 12volts on the yellow and red wire...Yellow (Memory) should be hot all the time...Red (Ignition) should be powered when key is on...If there is voltage are you sure you know how to turn the radio on or is there an owners manual available..What kind of radio is it..Also an Aiwa?

The radio is a becker. I'm pretty sure it is the stock factory radio. I've pushed every button and it doesn't come on. Is there some trick to turning these things on?
